A new industry report suggests that Apple will not be releasing the standard iPhone 18 in 2026 which indicates a drastic change in the company's traditional release cycle. If this is true, it will be the first instance of Apple not releasing a new basic iPhone model for a whole year.

Those familiar with Apple's product roadmap state that the company has decided to delay the regular iPhone 18 until 2027, while still expecting the premium models to arrive on time. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are said to be launched late this year, thus, the company is maintaining its traditional fall launch window for high-end devices.

Apple has been revealing its core iPhone lineup together for many years, mostly in September. Slight delays in shipments have occurred occasionally—like the infamous one during the pandemic in 2020—but never a complete staggering of the main models across different years. However, this policy seems to be changing.

As per reports taken up by Apple-centric media, the company may do its launches in two phases in the future. If the scheme is put into practice, the Pro models would come in the fall, and the standard and cheaper models would have their new release pushed to later. The industry is buzzing about the possibility of iPhone 18 being spring 2027 instead of debuting with iPhone Pro.

The dragging of the launch could also mean other new products from Apple's lineup. There are unconnected rumors saying the iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air might be out in the same time frame. The experts think it’s a similar move to the iPhone 16e, which was not released with the other iPhone 16 models, but much later.

The timing change is also connected to Apple’s larger hardware plans. There are several reports claiming that Apple is going to launch its first-ever foldable iPhone this year, a device that could easily attract attention along with the production resources during the fall launch period.

Nevertheless, the choice entails certain dangers. The iPhone 17 lineup has been praised by critics, with some saying it is the most well-rounded offering from Apple in the last few years. Pushing back the introduction of the standard iPhone 18 may result in dissatisfaction among buyers who want the non-Pro model and are not ready to pay more or wait an extra few months.

Experts in the market are of the opinion that the majority of iPhone users do not switch to a new model every year, and thus the impact may not be that great. Some customers who intended to wait for a later upgrade might decide to buy the iPhone 18, even if it means that their original plans will be affected by the timing shift.

If Apple walks the talk, then the staggered launch would be seen as a major transition in the way the company handles its flagship product cycle, and it might just change the perception of future iPhone releases.
